It seems appropriate with Labor Day upon us and “back to school” beginning – I will be teaching four graduate courses in the fall semester on Management and Leadership – to share some insights about what works and what doesn’t from a leadership perspective in financial firms small and large. We’ve had a few situations over the years where the stumbling block to real change and effectiveness is actually the leader. It’s a tricky situation because often times the “leader” wants to blame everyone else. This week I had the chance to run a half-day workshop helping seasoned, successful advisors learn techniques for emerging as strong leaders, so I’ll share some of the information here in this column.
