Advisor Perspectives, a leading publisher and ranked as the #1 eNewsletter for financial advisors by Erdos & Morgan “FAMOUS” Study (2019, 2020, 2021), has announced its Venerated Voices™ awards for commentaries published in Q1 2022. Rankings were issued in four categories: The Top 25 Venerated Voices™ by Firm and Author, the Top 10 Venerated Voices™ by Commentary, and a new category, The Top 25 Venerated Voices™ by Firm and Author by Count.
The first three categories require a minimum of one post per quarter and the last category requires three posts per quarter.
The most popular topics in Q1 2022 among all commentaries related to an impending recession, asset bubbles, and where to invest should a recession hit.
Leading the Top 25 Venerated Voices™ by Firm category was MonetaryMetals of Arizona, followed by Hussman Funds of Maryland. In third place was GMO of Boston.
Among individual commentators, the most-widely read was Jeremy Grantham of GMO. In second place was Keith Weiner of MonetaryMetals followed by John Hussman of Hussman Funds in third place.
The most-widely read commentary of Q1, published on January 20, was Let The Wild Rumpus Begin by Jeremy Grantham of GMO. In it, he discussed superbubbles in detail with definitions, statistics, and their history. Grantham defined superbubbles as two-sigma deviations from the trend and cautioned that this time could be different: “the extraordinary danger of adding several bubbles together, as we see today with three and a half major asset classes bubbling simultaneously for the first time in history.”
Brace for (Recession) Impact took second place, written by John Mauldin of Mauldin Economics and published on March 18. The commentary reminded us what happens in typical recessions while mentioning, like Grantham, that this time will be different. In terms of finding value in a recession, Mauldin suggested viewing it as a buying opportunity.
In third place was Gold May Rise but Silver May Double in 2022, by Keith Weiner of MonetaryMetals, published on February 10. MonetaryMetals takes a different approach and uses a model to provide “clear signals.” Weiner claimed the model is predicting a 75% price increase in gold and silver.
Advisor Perspectives’ website currently attracts over 150,000 unique visitors per month, virtually all of them financial advisors serving high- and ultra-high net worth individuals. The company publishes economic and market commentaries submitted by fund companies, advisors and independent research firms. In 2021, over 1,600 such commentaries were published and made available through a daily newsletter, Research Perspectives, which the company emails to its subscribers.
Venerated Voices™ rankings were determined by the number of unique readers of each commentary, using data provided electronically by the third-party web analytics service Google Analytics. The data were normalized using the average score per month or quarter (in the case of annual rankings). For the annual awards for the firm and author, a minimum of three commentaries must have been submitted during the year. Any participant is eligible to receive a quarterly award. Each firm and author is assigned a relative score based on unique pageviews, with a score of 100 equal to average quarterly readership.
Advisor Perspectives was founded in 2007 and is based in Lexington, Massachusetts. In addition to Research Perspectives, it publishes a widely read weekly newsletter, Advisor Perspectives, which contains original articles on the markets, the economy and practice management. Advisor Perspectives will continue providing quarterly updates to its rankings, as well as issuing annual Venerated Voices™ awards.
